Comments:

Started as a cadet at USAF Academy on June 29, 1964. Since I left Macon before our Yearbooks were published, my friend Roy McWilliams took my yearbook around and got autographs for me. As a senior, I hung around with my best friend Grover Ford. I have not been able to track Grover down and would like to get in touch with him. If anyone knows Grover's whereabouts, please send me a direct message? I graduated from USAFA on June 5, 1968 and married my first wife, Linda on June 6, 1968. (June is a important month for me!) I attended Purdue University beginning in June 1968 and graduated with a MS in January 1969. I attended pilot training at Moody AFB (I now wonder if our classmate Barry Moody is related to Major George Moody who died in 1941?) Moody AFB is near Valdosta, GA. I was only at Moody for a short while, because I "washed out," since without my glasses, I tried to land 50 feet above the runway. After that Linda and I were stationed at Holloman AFB, NM, from 1969 to 1974 as a non-rated crew member (a test engineer) and later a Test Director. We were then stationed at Kirtland AFB, NM, where I worked in the high Energy Laser program. After four years there, I was assigned to the faculty of the USAF Academy (USAFA), teaching Astronautical engineering. I left USAFA in 1982 to go to Eglin AFB, FL to work on the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM.) I was medically discharged in 1983. We then returned to Albuquerque and I began working for Applied Technology Associates (ATA), a small R&D firm here (now a part of Blue Halo.). I left ATA in 1989 and began working for Hughes aircraft at a small lab in Albuquerque. Our part of Hughes was then acquired by Raytheon, and then by Goodrich. I left Goodrich in 1983 to return to ATA and was there in various roles since then until I retired from ATA in January, 2012.My first wife and I divorced in 1995 and I married my second wife, Ruth, in 1997.

School Story:

Ever since 3rd grade at Alexander II, it had been my goal to attend the USAF Academy. Before graduating from Alexander II our football team lost in the Pony Bowl to Alexander IV. Some of my friends who were players are Ed Flowers, Tommy Lowe, Dennis Wells, Russell Melvin, Leonard Witcher, Jimmy Carpenter, and David Maddox. I was also friends, or wished to be friends with some of the cheerleaders, Sara Smith, Donna Evancic, Angela Smith, Lutrell Jenkins, Teresa McNeal, Elizabeth Otto, and Patricia Roberts. I listed Patricia last because she and I went to Ms. Ivey's kindergarten at the Tatnall Square Baptist Church along with my long-time friend Bobby Dial. In addition, Patricia was the first girl that I kissed when we got to 1st grade at Alexander II. To get an appointment to USAFA, I needed good grades, good participation in extra-circular activities, sports, and a demonstrated ability for leadership. Lanier suited these goals to a tee where I focused on my studies and JROTC. I was too small to play football, basketball, or even baseball, so I ended up being the track manger for Coach Bill Weeks, in 10th grade and then played tennis for Coach Brent in my junior and senior year. Perhaps the funniest memory was in Mr. Bennett's (who Bill Jones called Super-B) chemistry class, when Bill Jones, in particular used to warn Super-B not to get too close to the periodic chart on the wall because of the Kryptonite there. In return, Mr. B called Bill Jones, "Loquacious Jones." Not funny, but I vividly remember November 22, 1963. In that afternoon, just before the last bell, I was in Big Jim Nolan's Algebra class when we all heard that President John Fitzgerald Kennedy had been assassinated in Dallas, TX. Elmo Colburn and a sophomore David ? were going to catch the Centenary Methodist Church bus on a trip to Epworth-by-the Sea for a youth meeting. David played the bass, Elmo played the guitar, and I sort of played both the guitar and the 5-string banjo. We called ourselves the Dirty Dozen minus nine and one-half. My mother was scheduled to pick the three of us up at the front of Lanier, but she was late because she had been watching the live coverage with Walter Cronkite. We did get to camp, and on Saturday, November 24, as I was leaving the dining hall, I saw Jack Ruby shoot and kill Lee Harvey Oswald on a black and white TV.

•   Thank You, Father God, for giving Elizabeth another year of life.
Thank You for all the people who remembered Elizabeth on her birthday
by sending cards, and letters, gifts and good wishes.

Thank You for all of her experiences of this past year;
for times of success which will always be happy memories,
for times of failure which reminded Elizabeth of her own weakness and of her need for You,
for times of joy when the sun was shining,
for times of sadness which drove her to You.

Forgive Elizabeth
for the hours she wasted,
for the chances she failed to take,
for the opportunities she missed this past year.
Help Elizabeth in the days ahead to make this her best year yet,
and through it to bring good credit Elizabeth,
happiness and pride to her loved ones,
and joy to You. Amen.

I did not know Judy, but my friend, Sara Smith Clark knew her well.

Sara said," She was a good high school friend as well as a collge sorority sister. A week ago Sunday she had a brain bleed and was airlifted from Columbus to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. However she passed away. I (Sara) also am friends with her husband, Ron, and I know he and the kids are devastated. Keep them in your prayers."

Sara has asked me to be her conduit to her friends from Miller-Lanier 1964. If you would like me to forward a message to Sara, I would be pleased to do so. You can either usethis website or contact me by my cell phone number: (505) 977-2210 (please text first) or email me at felixmorg@aol.com.
